Finally

So, for the past day or so I've been trying my hardest to post the pictures of the crocheting project I just finished. It finally worked. Below, you'll find the pictures of the baby blanket I made for my cousin, Jessica. The colors incorporated into the blanket are white, blue, and green.

I have also managed to finish one chapter in my novel. I'm pretty please with how it's going so far. I can't wait to see what else develops in the coming days.

Also, I'm on my way to read some more of The Vampire Diaries. I've been a bit slacking today, but I had a good reason. =]

Lastly, I want to thank my best friend Stephanie for always being there for me. If there is anyone in this world that I could truly call my sister, it is her. She keeps me sane when I want to go absolutely bananas. So, thank you, Stephanie, from the bottom of my heart. We're always going to be the closest of friends. Our friendship truly shows that distance doesn't put an end to being friends! =]

It's Been A Few Days

I know, I know. I've been a complete slacker the past couple of days. This weekend was just really crazy. Normally Eric and I spend the weekends together and as usual that's what we did this weekend. This is why I didn't update it everyday; time just got away from me. Friday, I worked on a crocheting project and wrote some of my novel. We ran errands on Saturday and then we hung out at home and I almost completed my cousin's baby blanket.  Sunday was another lazy day. But I'm back for the week! =]

Let's see. I've written four pages in my book! Haha, it doesn't sound like much, but I haven't written since Friday. I will be writing some tonight, while I relax in bed. =] I've read more of The Vampire Diaries and I hope to have this done this week. In order to do this, after I finish my cousin's baby blanket, I won't be starting another crochet project until I finish the book. =] Which will be nice. I need a break from crocheting.

Speaking of, I can now post pictures of my first project.  I couldn't post the pictures before now because I was waiting for its recipient to get the blanket. The pictures aren't the best, because I had to snap a few quick ones before mailing it. Anyway - it'll get the point across. Below is the blanket I made for my best friend Stephanie. =]  Enjoy.

Tomorrow, I should be able to update with pictures of my cousin's baby blanket! =]

Progress

Today, for the first time in quite a while, I sat down and began to plan out characters, their descriptions, and chapter plots. I wrote out general plots for the first two chapters and wrote out descriptions about the most important characters. I wanted to move on to plotting out chapter three, but I've kind of hit a block. So, I'm going to try writing the first two chapters and hopefully, after I have the first two chapters written out before me, I should be able to piece together ideas for the preceding chapters. Usually when someone encounters writer's block it means they've gone astray in their writing and something they previously have written or thought of may not be the correct direction or angle needed for the plot/story. I learned his tidbit of information from Nicholas Sparks himself and his writing tips, which can be found on his website. I may have a potential ending for my book, which is also very exciting.

I also spent part of the day reading from The Vampire Diaries - The Return: Shadow Souls. I must say that the book already has me on edge. I can't wait to see where the plot goes and what happens to all of the characters. I hope to have this book finished relatively soon, because I already know what series I'm going to start next. =]

As far as crocheting goes, I'm currently working on my cousins baby blanket. I hope to also have this finished within the next few days because I am anxious to start my friend, Leena's, baby blanket. =] I'll will post pictures of the current blanket I'm making and past blankets here shortly. =]

Until tomorrow,

Encouragement, Fear & Trust

Today's post is a bit different. It's not about my writing progress, or my reading, or even my crocheting; it's about the encouragement I received from best friend today about my writing. Sometimes I feel like my writing isn't exactly the best and for a while I've been feeling that way. Perhaps that's why I haven't written much in the past few weeks; or perhaps I was just too sexually frustrated with Eric being out of the country and I was tired of writing sex scenes. Yeah, I think I wrote like two of them in my book! Which is kind of funny if you ask me! But oh well, that doesn't matter because well, the book is going to get some MAJOR revision this summer. Maybe I'll even start on the prewriting phase tomorrow. Yeah, that's a good idea. Anyway - it's nice being told your an excellent writer, especially from your best friend, who I know would tell me the truth about my writing, even if it sucked. =] I'm exceptionally thankful for her.

One thing I do have difficulty with is showing my husband my writing. He's not into the whole reading thing and I think a huge part of me holding back from telling him what my book is about or letting him read some of it is because, even though he would be extremely proud of me, reading just isn't his cup of tea. Which is completely understandable. I also just don't believe I'm ready to stoop to that level of vulnerability. Writing is kind of like art work, it may reflect your feelings on the particular days you spent hours writing or the viewpoints you share. Does that make sense? Actually, I changed my mind; writing is a form of art. It tells a story and expresses feelings, invokes emotions, and pulls a reaction out of every audience member. I think fear of receiving a bad reaction is keeping me from holding back. Which makes perfect sense. Anyway - I hope as soon as I start revising everything, that I'll be ready to share my entire work with my husband and my best friend. =] They're the people who will tell me the truth, no matter what...that's the kind of trust I have with both of them. I need to lean on that trust and face my fears and take a leap. Hopefully that leap will come soon. =]

Excerpt From Book

Sadly enough, I didn't have time yesterday to update this. Hopefully, after this upcoming final, I'll have more time to sit and write, read, and crochet, which means I'll have more blog updates. =]

Anyway - I've been wrestling with the idea of posting a excerpt from the novel I've been writing for quite some time now. I don't think I'll ever show it to anyone or submit it to a publishing company because of personal reasons.  However, this summer I am going to take ideas from this "practice" novel and expand on them greatly, age the characters a bit, and develop more in-depth story lines. I hope to get most of it done this summer and go from there.

Below is the excerpt I've decided to include in this blog. I'm not sure if it will make it into the writing I hope to do this summer, but we shall see. =] Enjoy.

 Dear Madysin,
If you’re reading this, it means I’m gone.  I wrote this letter to you when you were little and gave it to Austin to give to you if something ever happened to me.  I suspect you’re living with the King’s now; somehow I always knew you’d end up there if something ever happened to me.  I know you aren’t close to your mother, but you need to know she loves you. I only hope you two can be close one day.
You’re probably hurting unbelievably right now, but I’m in a better place.  It is okay to grieve for me, but don’t stop caring about yourself or others.  That’s what always intrigued me about you, Madysin. You know how to be selfish every once in a while, and knew how to take care of yourself.  You’re a strong person, and you’re going to get through this.  Struggles are something we must go through in life because it helps us grow as individuals.
I don’t want you to forget who you are Madysin.  I may be gone and we may have been close, but that doesn’t mean life doesn’t go on, because it does.  Remember the things you enjoy in life; most importantly, remember to always do those things and always be involved in theater. Theater is much more than acting; it’s a way of escaping life for a while, and allowing yourself to become someone else. Becoming another person allows you to inspire people in ways you couldn’t have before, including yourself. Theater is your life, and even though we shared a love for it, I don’t want you to stop acting because it can and will take you far in life.
Lastly, be happy.  Smile even when you don’t want to. Go out. Have fun. Live life to the fullest because you never know when it could end. I’ll see you again one day, I promise and I’ll always be with you, watching over you.  You’re my little girl and I can’t wait to see where life takes you.
                                                                                            Love,
                                                                                            Dad

Wuthering Heights

Brief Synopsis:
Wuthering Heights is a gothic novel written by Emily Bronte. It primarily tells the ill-fated love story of childhood friends, Heathcliff and Catherine through the eyes of Ellen (Nelly) Dean, as recorded in Mr. Lockwood's diary. Mr. Lockwood is the present day occupant of Thrushcross Grange, which is owned by Heathcliff.

As a young orphan, Heathcliff comes to live at Wuthering Heights after being brought home by Catherine's father, Mr. Earnshaw. He continues living at Wuthering Heights throughout his childhood and teen years, despite the terrible treatment that ensues by Catherine's brother, Hindley, after the death of Mr. Earnshaw. As they grow from children to young adults, Catherine and Heathcliff fall passionately in love with one another . Unfortunately, because of societal views, their love is virtually forbidden. Thus, as a result of this circumstance, events ensue, causing Heathcliff to travel down a road marked with vengeance against Hindley and his son, Catherine, her husband, and daughter, as well as his own wife and son.

Personal Opinion of the Novel:

I thoroughly enjoyed Wuthering Heights, which came as no shock to me because I generally tend to enjoy classics. What is great about this novel is that the language is not particularly difficult to understand, thus I read through the novel pretty quickly. Emily Bronte tells an engrossing tale of love that has been denied by society of the era in which the story occurs. However, while this may sound very "Romeo and Juliet," the outcome is quite different.  I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good gothic novel. It invokes suspense, betrayal, cruelty, love, death, and many other dramatic elements, which tend to engross audiences.

Next Novel:

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls

My Blog 101

Hello All,

First off, welcome to my blog. As you may have guessed from the title of my blog, it will incorporate a synopsis from books I read, my progress on my writing, and crocheting projects I have completed. Feel free to leave comments, but be aware that rude comments will be deleted.

I'm sure everyone would like a little bit of information on myself. So, here it goes! =]

My name is Megan and I am a United States Air Force wife. My husband and I started dating in 2006 and got married in 2008, five months after I graduated high school. Two weeks after our wedding, the military moved us to Alaska for three years. While Alaska can be beautiful and worthwhile at times, it is definitely not a place where I could live my entire life. We are anxiously awaiting our PCS orders, which should be here in about a year. I am ecstatic to see where the military, and life, takes us.

My husband and I do not have any children; however, we do have a dog, who might as well be our child. Chevy is a Vizsla and Whippet mix and is approximately two years old, give or take a month or two. She is my pride and joy and keeps me company when my husband is away from home on his military duties.

I am currently attending the University of Maryland University College and am dual-majoring in English/Literature and Criminal Justice. I hope to eventually go to Graduate School there and obtain my masters in English Literature. Eventually, I would like to become a published author. I have already stared one novel, which may not ever be published. This summer I hope to start a more sophisticated novel, as well as finish it. In addition, I plan to teach high school level English, as well as dual-enrolled college English courses.

During my high school years I was actively involved in music/band, soccer, and theater. All three of these still remain a big part of my life. I participated in the march band at LCHS and have played the clarinet since I was in the fifth grade. I played soccer during my eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade years at the junior and varsity levels. I was also on a travel soccer team for a few years. I was also in theater in the ninth grade and during my senior year of high school, I was in Advanced Theater. I participated in "Cyrano," and "The Outsiders." I also was stage manager and snagged the lead role in a one act play, entitled "Six Days To Melissa." Theater was by far the most amazing experience and it change my life in ways that you can never imagine. It will always remain one of my deepest passions.

One of my other hobbies, in addition to music, soccer, and theater, is crocheting. I currently just finished my first project, and I currently started a baby blanket for my cousin, Jessica. Reading is also a huge hobby of mine. I always have my nose stuck in a book. I simply cannot get enough of books. I love the adventure's I go on when I'm reading them! I love the characters I meet and those I fall completely in love with. Reading creatively opens the imagination and can allow the audience to explore wonderful world's created by the imagination of their authors. Also, if you haven't already guessed, I love to write as well. Primarily, I like to write novels and I have never tried to write poetry. I do not find myself very poetic, to say the least.

I have a little brother and. I never thought in a million years that I'd miss him after I moved away from home (we fought like cats and dogs when I lived at home), but I do. I also have a HUGE extended family; so huge in fact, that Eric, my husband, has not even met all of them! I'm very close to my Grandma Price, who, aside from Stephanie and my mom, is my best friend.

My travels have seen me to places that I never thought I'd ever visit, obviously one includes Alaska. Never in a million years did I ever think I'd moved to Alaska. I've also been to San Antonio, Texas for Eric's Basic Military Training graduation. I've been to New York City twice and seen four broadway shows: "Phantom of the Opera," "The Lion King," "Legally Blonde: The Musical," and "Wicked." One day I hope to go on a road trip around the United States. =] There are quite a few other places I have visited, but it would take way too much time to type them out!

Meg
