Excerpt From Book

Sadly enough, I didn't have time yesterday to update this. Hopefully, after this upcoming final, I'll have more time to sit and write, read, and crochet, which means I'll have more blog updates. =]

Anyway - I've been wrestling with the idea of posting a excerpt from the novel I've been writing for quite some time now. I don't think I'll ever show it to anyone or submit it to a publishing company because of personal reasons.  However, this summer I am going to take ideas from this "practice" novel and expand on them greatly, age the characters a bit, and develop more in-depth story lines. I hope to get most of it done this summer and go from there.

Below is the excerpt I've decided to include in this blog. I'm not sure if it will make it into the writing I hope to do this summer, but we shall see. =] Enjoy.

 Dear Madysin,
If you’re reading this, it means I’m gone.  I wrote this letter to you when you were little and gave it to Austin to give to you if something ever happened to me.  I suspect you’re living with the King’s now; somehow I always knew you’d end up there if something ever happened to me.  I know you aren’t close to your mother, but you need to know she loves you. I only hope you two can be close one day.
You’re probably hurting unbelievably right now, but I’m in a better place.  It is okay to grieve for me, but don’t stop caring about yourself or others.  That’s what always intrigued me about you, Madysin. You know how to be selfish every once in a while, and knew how to take care of yourself.  You’re a strong person, and you’re going to get through this.  Struggles are something we must go through in life because it helps us grow as individuals.
I don’t want you to forget who you are Madysin.  I may be gone and we may have been close, but that doesn’t mean life doesn’t go on, because it does.  Remember the things you enjoy in life; most importantly, remember to always do those things and always be involved in theater. Theater is much more than acting; it’s a way of escaping life for a while, and allowing yourself to become someone else. Becoming another person allows you to inspire people in ways you couldn’t have before, including yourself. Theater is your life, and even though we shared a love for it, I don’t want you to stop acting because it can and will take you far in life.
Lastly, be happy.  Smile even when you don’t want to. Go out. Have fun. Live life to the fullest because you never know when it could end. I’ll see you again one day, I promise and I’ll always be with you, watching over you.  You’re my little girl and I can’t wait to see where life takes you.
                                                                                            Love,
                                                                                            Dad
